In the Merchant Of Venice, I believe that Shylock was a victim because he was punished so much unnecessarily. I know that Shylock sought the end of Antonio's Life. However, He was punished far more than the punishment that was suited for the crime that he had committed. Shylock is punished by the Venetian court for seeking to end Antonio's life. He is charged under a Venetian law and he is forced to give up his wealth and to beg the Duke to spare his life. In conclusion, I feel that the punishment given to Shylock wasn't suited and he was a victim of harsh times.
Protests & Riots have caused lots of problems throughout history. However, some riots and protests benefit the people because they get what they were protesting for. Riots & protests start when someone has an opinion on something and they are trying to express how they feel. For example, lots of black lives matter protests have been happening recently. Black people have been treated with no respect so people gathered together and started protests because they all want to express how they feel about this matter. Riots sometimes get out of hand and it causes major problems. It can lead to people being injured or even worse. A riot is a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd. While riots may be effective, I am against them. Riots cause lots of harm to citizens all around the world and you can get seriously injured or even worse. Riots are far too violent. I think that there are more roundabout tactics to protest.
Personally, I think that you cant just make a whole description of someone just off of looking at their race. Race isn't something that defines people. So you shouldn't just judge people based off of there race or colour. I think that racism is something that effects everyone. Even white people. Racism is something that has caused a lot of problems in history and I strongly oppose it. I support black lives matter and I always will. I also support white lives matter and brown lives. So I guess I can say that I support lives. I don't think that they should be separated I think that all lives matter and that they are all important. No matter what race you are it doesn't man that your life doesn't matter. It always will.
Over the last couple years, cops in the USA have really been making a bad reputation for themselves. There are many videos all over the internet of bad cops in the USA and how they treat their citizens. I would like to share two points from Hasan Minhaj's video essay about police misconduct. One point I would like to share and it is something that he talks about throughout the video essay. He says "its nearly impossible to sue a cop". This is because since they are a cop they have rights from the government that protect them and make it nearly impossible for them to be sued. In the video essay, he talks about an officer that was asking a man for his licence. The man in the cars stated that he was armed and right after the man said this the cop fired seven rounds of his pistol into the man. Personally, I don't understand why he did this. The man didn't do a thing. However, the cop still decide to fire his pistol at the man.
The theme of this poem is good vs evil. Throughout this poem, she talks about the beauty of the city but also the horrific side of the city that is full of darkness. In the poem, she says "the city is beauty, unbreakable and amorous". Here, she is talking about the good side of the city and how the city blossoms for the people who live there. She also says "the streets are pressed with fierce departures". In conclusion, This poem is a good representation of good vs evil. Dionne Brand talks about the beauty of the city. But, she also talks about the fierce and horrific side of the city which is full of nothing but darkness.
Personally, I think that it is better to have a story read to you instead of reading it yourself because you hear all of the emotion and the thoughts of the story when it is being read to you and this can help you understand the story better. I think that having a story read to you is much more effective then reading it because when it is being read to you, its usually being read to you by someone who is familiar with the story so they can explain the story much easier then lets say a book would.
Personally, I think it was wrong for the photographer to not help the boy because the little boy was on the verge of dying and the photographer didn't help him what so ever. However, I think that there was a reason to why the photographer didn't help the little boy. Maybe there was an alternate motive that the photographer had in mind. In this picture, It looks like the boy is in true pain and needs help. It makes me feel so sad that the man just watched while the little boy was in so much pain. The man had reportedly been advised not to touch the victims because of disease, so instead of helping, he spent 20 minutes waiting in the hope that the stalking bird would open its wings. It makes sense that the man didn't want to get infected by this disease. However, its just really sad to see this poor boy all on his own with no one to help him. The only person who was there and could have helped him just sat there and watched.
The anecdote that I decided to do was "To Caution". Here are some examples of cautionary anecdotes:
“A sister, a nun started talking to me in English and French, and yelling at me. I did not speak English, and didn’t understand what she, what she was asking. She got very upset, and started hitting me all over my body, hands, legs and back. I began to cry, yell, and became very scared, and this infuriated her more. She got a black strap and hit me some more.” I truly feel that what this sister did to the little girl was wrong. She started beating her simply because the little girl didn't know how to respond since she didn't know English or French. When reading this I felt really sad thinking about how things were back in those times. I truly felt bad for the little girl who was hit and I am truly happy that times have changed and people aren't so rough anymore. This is a question I have all the time. Why do something without thinking If you know that someone will end up finding out and make things worse. That was the question I asked myself when making this meme. Many people post on the internet about their lives and whats going on like no can see what they are talking about. They show no sense of responsibility and then end up posting stuff like "omg I hate my job" or "i have to go work at my stupid job tomorrow". They think that only the people they are following can see it. But, for example someone could send it to his or her boss and that can get them fired. This has happened to many people all over the internet. Even if it happened a long time ago, they till get hate messages to this day. This is why you must always be careful about what you are posting on the internet. Your posts are visible to everyone all over the internet and you must make sure not to offend anyone or make people sad or else you will get lots of hate. Posting something once on the internet is like making a mark on the internet. It will always be there even if you delete it. People have already seen it so it will always be there. If you post something really offensive and try to delete it, it wont help. It will be remembered.
